The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) is an intergovernmental treaty signed by more than 180 countries. The aim of the treaty is to protect plants from the adverse effects, introduction and spread of harmful organisms and to promote safe trade. The IPPC introduced International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs) as the main instrument to achieve its objectives, making it the only global plant health standard-setting body.
The IPPC is one of the organizations recognized by the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) Agreement of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
