Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are organisms whose genetic material is artificially modified to give it new properties (e.g. to make a plant more resistant to disease, insects or drought, to improve food quality, to increase crop productivity).
Municipalities may, by binding regulations, prohibit the cultivation of genetically modified crops in a given administrative territory or part thereof.
The municipality muct inform the State Plant Protection Service about the ban on the cultivation of genetically modified crops.
